Why eCommerce Websites Are More Prone To Penalty Charges Of Google Updates?

In Website Optimization

Google updates and its algorithms like Panda and Penguin keep a close check on the SEO process and continue with its act of penalty charging on websites that uses cheap techniques like keyword stuffing, unnatural back links etc. Among the websites that get easily penalized, ecommerce websites always top the list. Panda has many ways of checking the quality of a website before placing it in the top ranks of Google search bar. One of the prime parameters based on which panda does filtration is “Content”. Thin Content is complete no for panda; any website stuffed with thin content is sure to receive a penalty from Google in form of a good downfall in its Google ranking. Now what is “Thin Content”. Thin content can be identified through:

  • Poor English
  • Duplicate content that falls under copy-paste issue
  • Overload of keywords
  • Wrong Context
  • Low word count etc

Among the above mentioned parameters, “Duplicate Content” is the most strong parameter, as rest aspects can be manipulated in some way or other. But panda strictly follows the copyright, and any content that is duplicate or copied from some pre-existing web page is no way to get accepted by panda. Under the light of this fact ecommerce website holds the maximum chances of being a victim of the fangs of Panda or Penguin. This comment nowhere means that ecommerce website willingly publishes duplicate content. But the domain itself is of that sort that duplicate content get inevitable. Because ecommerce websites basically sells products or services, and majority of the pages of an ecommerce website includes product or service description only. Now, consider an apparel selling ecommerce website, who sales T Shirts. A page will compromise the description of a Red colored V Neck T shirt and another page will compromise the description of the same t Shirt but of Green color. How much unique and different content can be created for two t-shirts that differ only in terms of color or how much words can be included for writing such a description? Hence, knowingly or unknowingly, duplicate content or low word count gets prominent in the description of such similar product. Yet, writer can still introduce difference and uniqueness in the content through his/ her input of creativity. In fact it’s the only way to save the ecommerce website from the penalty imposed by Google Updates and Panda.
